INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana State Police is warning all Hoosiers about scammers trying to get cash by claiming they are taking donations for law enforcement.
ISP said they have been receiving complaints from residents and businesses statewide about solicitors who say they are working with the Indiana State Police or other police agencies.
Detectives said the complainants reported the solicitors asked them to tape the donation to the door of their home or business for collection. They said the solicitors sometimes told donors the funds would be used to send children to a law enforcement summer camp.
State Police gave us this list of tips to dealing with in-person or phone solicitations.
Finally, ISP said if you are ever in doubt about the legitimacy of a solicitor, just say 'no' and call the police.
