POSEY CO., IN - Mount Vernon, Ind. police say that murder suspect Lee Kershaw was arrested in Acapulco Mexico within the last 48 hours and is now in US custody in Phoenix, Arizona.
US marshals transported Kershaw across state lines around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities have been searching for the 39-year-old Mount Vernon man this past week in connection to the shooting death of 43-year-old Jon David on November, 21.
Kershaw's ex-wife, Lisa Kershaw said she was asleep with her boyfriend David when a man she believed to be her ex-husband entered her bedroom and fired multiple shots. The man proceeded to assault Lisa with the stock of his weapon before fleeing the residence.
David was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering from three gunshot wounds. ISP crime lab stated in an affidavit of probable cause that four 7.62 caliber casings were found in the bedroom.
Police issued a murder warrant for Kershaw's arrest after reviewing his bank records that showed an ATM withdraw attempt in Marston, Missouri later that day. His vehicle was discovered the next day in Madrid County, Missouri.
The affidavit also states that Kershaw called his mother that afternoon from an unknown cell phone and told her that he shot Lisa's boyfriend but did not know if he killed him.
Kershaw is being held on charges of murder, attempted murder and burglary resulting in bodily injury.
