LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Three teenagers face criminal charges for what police say was an attempted robbery during which shots were fired at a sport-utility vehicle on Interstate 65 near Lafayette.
Police say no one was injured in the shooting and the three teens were arrested soon afterward about 5 a.m. Sunday. Tippecanoe County prosecutors on Tuesday filed charges of attempted robbery, attempted carjacking and criminal recklessness against the Indianapolis teens, ages 18, 16 and 15.
Lafayette police Sgt. Jeromy Rainey says the SUV had four distinct bullet marks but investigators didn't know how many shots were fired.
He said the youths picked the SUV for a robbery and followed it from Indianapolis, opening fire on it as their vehicle ran low on fuel.
