FRANKFORT, KY - Investigators conclude that bad food was not the cause of a fiery riot at a Kentucky prison in August.
A corrections officer told lawmakers earlier this month that he believes inmates at Northpoint Training Center in Burgin rioted and set fires in trash cans because they were upset over the quality and quantity of their food rations, but investigators said that wasn't the case.
The 22-page report by the Kentucky Justice Cabinet said inmates were reacting to a partial lockdown when they rioted and set fires that destroyed most of the buildings at the medium-security facility. The damage to the prison was so severe that about 700 inmates had to be transferred to other lockups around the state.
Authorities said 16 people suffered minor injuries in the August 21st riot.
