DUBOIS CO., IN – Students at Dubois County schools will soon be receiving the H1N1 influenza vaccine. The Dubois County Health Department and the Dubois County schools will begin Tuesday providing students the vaccine through school based clinics.
Health officials said because of the limited amount of vaccine available, a random drawing was conducted to determine the order the schools will get it. For this week, 10th Street Elementary School has a clinic scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th, and Ireland Elementary School will have one Thursday, November 12th. The Dubois County Health Department said more schools will be scheduled as more vaccine becomes available.
Officials said parents will be notified about two days before the clinic is scheduled in their children’s school. They said parental written consent must be given prior to any vaccination. We are told students can get a consent form from the school nurse or it can be downloaded from the school’s web site. If your child has already received the H1N1 vaccine, health officials said parents must provide written documentation to the school nurse.
The DCHD said children 9-years-old and younger will need two doses of the vaccine. They said the doses will be separated by a minimum of 28 days, and another consent form will be required.
Officials welcome parents to accompany their children to the school based clinics, but only students will be able to get the vaccine.
