Daycare Owner and Boyfriend Arrested in Evansville

EVANSVILLE – Evansville police said they arrested two people at an Evansville day care on Sunday with meth.

The Evansville Police Department said they arrested Gene Hoover and Tammy Engle at “Your Day Care” in the 1100 block of S. Boeke Road.

According to police documents, officers were dispatched to the daycare after getting a complaint about illegal drug activity going on there with children inside. When officers arrived they talked to a witness who said Engle and Hoover do drugs inside the house that is also licensed as a daycare.

Police said they then got permission to enter the house and found six children inside, three of which belonged to the suspects, and five adults.

Officers wrote in a police affidavit that they observed Hoover put something behind a recliner. After several attempts by Hoover to stall them, officers said they found five baggies containing methamphetamine behind the chair.

In the affidavit, police wrote that Hoover denied the bags were his. They said more meth was found in Hoover’s wallet, which he also denied was his.

EPD said a search of Tammy Engle’s room turned up methamphetamine and marijuana.

Police reported both were taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail. They said Engle faces drug possession charges, while Hoover faces charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and child neglect.

EPD said this was not the first time they’ve received complaints about drug activity at the home.  Police documents said officers have received numerous complaints in the past, the latest one on October 22nd.
