Two H1N1 Clinics to be Held This Week in Evansville

VANDERBURGH CO., IN - The Vanderburgh County Health Department will hold a H1N1 flu vaccine clinic for only pregnant women on Tuesday. Health officials said the clinic will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the health department office at 420 Mulberry Street.

They said only pregnant women who have not received a previous H1N1 vaccination should attend, and be prepared for a prolonged wait in case lines are long.

A H1N1 clinic is scheduled for tier 1 target populations on Thursday, November 12th at the C.K. Newsome Center, in downtown Evansville, from 2:00 to 6:00pm.

The tier 1 target population includes:

• Pregnant women
• People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
• Health care and emergency services personnel
• Persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age
• People from ages 25 through 64 years who are at higher risk for novel H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems. Medical conditions that confer a higher risk for influenza-related complications include chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, cognitive, neurologic/neuromuscular, hematologic, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus) and immunosuppression (including immuno­suppression caused by medications or by human immunodeficiency virus).

The VCHD asks that anyone who has been ill within 24 hours before any clinic should not attend.
