KNOX CO., IN - A Knox County couple are behind bars after police find a working meth lab in their house.
Indiana State Police said they went to 11741 North Old U.S. 41 in Oaktown, Wednesday afternoon after getting a complaint about illegal drug activity. When troopers arrived, they reported smelling a strong odor commonly associated with making methamphetamine.
Troopers said there were two vehicles parked outside the home, but no one answered the door when the knocked. ISP reported the troopers forced their way into the house due to the threat that anyone inside might be overcome by the toxic chemicals. Troopers said they could not get beyond the front room because of the fumes in the house.
After the home was allowed to vent, authorities said they found an active meth lab. About that time, troopers said a GMC pickup truck drove up to the house and then tried to turn around.
Troopers said they stopped the vehicle and identified the occupants as the homeowners. They said 41-year-old Christopher Bement and 38-year-old Tracy Kennedy were arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine.
Both were taken to the Knox County Jail, where police said they found nearly three grams of meth on Bement.
