EVANSVILLE - Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels wants to speed up construction of the Interstate 69 extension, and he says the state has a way to do that.
NEWS 25 talked to Daniels on Wednesday at the University of Southern Indiana. Governor Daniels told us he approved an accelerated I-69 plan on Monday, which will bring the extension to Crane Naval Base three years ahead of schedule and on budget.
Daniels said INDOT has researched some creative solutions to building it faster, like a narrower median with safety cables and less pavement. He said the state would put down enough pavement for 15-20 years of traffic and put the remaining pavement down after the highway is completed.
Governor Daniels said the state is working on construction bid packages that are expected to go out early next year.
