ISP: Standoff with Suicidal Man in Dale Ends

DALE, IN - Indiana State Police tells NEWS 25 the standoff ended at approximately 9:50 p.m. CDT.

After three hours of not seeing any movement from the apartment the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team entered the apartment.  They discovered Gary Green, 64, deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

DALE, IN - Indiana State Police tell NEWS 25 they are still in involved in a standoff with a suicidal man heavily armed in his apartment at Terrace Apartments on the 400 block of West Medcalf Street.

The standoff began at 3:40pm CDT Thursday after officers arrived at the apartment for a welfare check on someone threatening suicide. The suicidal subject called the Spencer County Dispatch and told them to have the officers leave or he would hurt them. The officers moved to a safe place and called for back-up. Soon after they did that two gun shots were fired from the apartment.

Officers established a perimeter and called for the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team and Hostage Negotiators to assist. Those negotiators are being assisted by negotiators from the Warrick County Sheriff's Office and Tell City Police Department.

"These are very risky situations," said Lieutenant Don Bolen, Commander of the Jasper Post. "Fortunately we have officers on scene that are very well trained to deal with these types of situations and hopefully there will be a peaceful outcome and we can get this individual the help he needs."

The ISP are being assisted by the Spencer County Sheriff's Office, Warrick County Sheriff's Office, Dale Police Department, Santa Claus Police Department, Tell City Police Department, Spencer County EMA, Carter and Ohio Township Fire Departments.

DALE, IN - Indiana State Police tell NEWS 25 they are involved in a standoff with a suicidal man heavily armed in his apartment at Terrace Apartments on the 400 block of West Medcalf Street.

Dale Police, Spencer County Sheriff Deputies and Indiana State Police have been in a standoff with the man since 3:40 pm CDT Thursday.

ISP tells us it began when a doctor called Spencer County Sheriff's Office concerned about a man saying he was going to kill himself.

We are told by ISP that the man is heavily armed and shots have been fired, but there are no reports of anyone hurt.
