NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a Lexington man, charging him with in the theft of marriage licenses from county clerk's offices.
An official of the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office in Nicholasville said 50-year-od William Bush Jr. was arrested Wednesday and charged with 93 felony counts of tampering with public records.
Chief Deputy Allen Peel told the Lexington Herald-Leader police recovered 1,072 documents from six counties, so additional charges are likely.
The Herald-Leader reported Bush told police he was gathering information for mortgage insurance company Pro Data Research of Burlington, N.C. The newspaper reported an employee of the company had no comment on Wednesday.
Marriage licenses in Kentucky do not contain Social Security numbers, but do have a lot of other personal information.
