GREENVILLE, KY - An investigator from the Kentucky Fire Marshal's Office is in downtown Greenville trying to find out what caused an overnight fire.
Greenville Fire Chief Jerry Aders said as many as 75 firefighters from 11 departments were eventually called to fight the fire that broke out at a restaurant around midnight.
Aders said the pizza place had been closed for a couple hours before the fire started.
He told us the flames were contained to the restaurant, but some surrounding buildings suffered water damage. No injuries were reported.
MUHLENBERG CO., KY - A building in the heart of Greenville, KY was destroyed by an overnight fire.
Firefighters told us the blaze began before 1:00 a.m. Friday at a pizza restaurant in downtown Greenville. Five fire departments were called to the scene. One department was from as far away as Owensboro, KY.
Greenville Fire Chief Jerry Aders said it took fire crews hours to get the flames under control. He said at one point firefighters had to pull away from the building because they were afraid it might collapse.
Aders said the restaurant is a total loss, and surrounding buildings suffered water damage. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are now looking into what sparked the fire.
Greenville, KY is located about 40 miles south of Owensboro.
