HYDEN, Ky. (AP) - Schools in an eastern Kentucky county are closed this week after rain damages roads.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that Leslie County schools are closed Thursday and Friday because roads on 15 bus routes are damaged. Assistant Superintendent Calvin Crawford says school buildings were not damaged in Wednesday's rains, but U.S. 421 between Harlan and Hyden was washed out. Crawford says some families are without water and power.
Jonathan Dobson of the Kentucky Highway Department says a temporary repair to U.S. 421 south of Hyden was expected to be in place by late Thursday.
