EVANSVILLE - A single engine Cessna 172 aircraft was force to make an emergency landing in a field near the 700 West Inglefiels Road, about 3 miles northwest of Evansville-Regional Airport just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The pilot of the small personal aircraft, 36-year-old Christopher Ryan of Clearfield Utah, was the only occupant of the aircraft.
Ryan, who was on his way to Evansville Regional Airport for fuel, successfully landed his aircraft after the engine stalled and was unable to re-power it. No one was injured and the plane was not damaged.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about the emergency landing and emergency personnel, including the Scott Township Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Ryan told investigating Deputies that he had left from Madison, Wisconsin around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and was traveling to Charleston, South Carolina.
Representatives from the FAA were contacted and will inspect the plane Monday morning before it is allowed to take flight. The cause of the engine's failure is still unknown.
